Defining Theory of Mind with Alexandra Horowitz

This week’s Defining HAS video series video is by Alexandra Horowitz, Adjunct Associate Professor, at the Psychology Department at Barnard College, who has discussed the term Theory of Mind.

Alexandra Horowitz wants to know what it’s like to be a dog. To that end, her Dog Cognition Lab at Barnard College conducts research on a wide range of topics, including dog perceptual experience, meta-cognition, and play behavior — as well as examining the attributions people make to dogs. In her free time, she is a professor psychology and creative nonfiction at Barnard and is the author of several books about dogs, including Inside of a Dog: What Dogs See, Smell, and Know (2009), Being a Dog: Following the Dog into a World of Smell (2016), and editor of Domestic Dog Cognition and Behavior (Springer-Verlag, 2014), and the forthcoming Our Dogs, Ourselves (due out September 2019).
