For more than 35 years, the Animals & Society Institute (ASI) has worked to create safer and more compassionate communities for all. One way of doing this is by co-hosting with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) the Human-Animal Studies Summer Institute program. Now in its fourth year, the Summer Institute focuses on graduate students and those in the first few years post-PhD., pursuing research in the Human-Animal Studies (HAS) field.
The Summer Institute is a tuition-based program that admits up to 30 participants each year and affords them the opportunity to work on their dissertations or publications at the UIUC Center for Advanced Study for one intensive week. Combined with daily lectures by distinguished speakers, workshops and seminars—the Summer Institute is critical to advancing the HAS field as it provides a unique intellectual environment reflecting a diversity of approaches, projects, disciplinary backgrounds, and ethical positions on animal issues.
One recent Summer Institute participant shared her feedback: “I am so much more passionate and invested in human animal studies after the Institute than I ever could have been without it. It was truly life-changing.”
ASI’s goal is to raise $3,000 which will provide three Summer Institute tuition scholarships. This is why your support is so critical; we can’t do it without your help! Your scholarship gift to the Summer Institute not only changes the lives of its participants, it changes the lives of animals and our communities.
Your gift today is more than a simple donation, it is an investment in the Summer Institute and the hope for a more compassionate future for both animals and people.
Your gift today means that you stand with ASI and together we will help future scholars create safer and more compassionate communities for tomorrow.
