Students interested in pursuing a graduate degree in human-animal studies, or in a “normal” field with HAS as a specialty, have historically not had too many options.
The good news is that there are more PhD programs in the field than ever before, as well as more faculty in PhD programs in related fields than ever before. Besides the designated HAS/animal studies/anthrozoology degree programs (including PhD programs), of which we maintain an up-to-date list, we will now be releasing new lists of faculty in PhD programs in most of the fields in which human-animal studies is currently found. Students can use these lists to help them to narrow down the programs to which they may want to apply.
Our first is a list of faculty who specialize in human-animal studies who work in Anthropology programs in North America which offer PhDs. You can find it here.
