SASI Project Ideas
HAS Class Advocacy If your school does not currently offer a course in human-animal studies, your chapter can petition the administration to add one to the available curriculum. The ASI has instructional materials which we can offer to interested faculty members.
Conferences Attending HAS conferences is a good way to network with other students and professors working in the field. Visit our events web page, or subscribe to our monthly e-newsletter, to see what kinds of events are going on in your area. Graduate student groups may want to host their own conference as well. Talk to us at ASI because we can help!
Guest Speakers Many chapters host speakers, debates, panels, and even conferences on current issues in human-animal studies. This is a great way to raise the profile of animal issues on campus and to network and meet leaders in the field.
Reading Group/Film Screenings Some chapters meet occasionally to discuss books or articles on human-animal studies or watch documentaries, films, and TV shows. We have put together
a list of films and television shows that you might want to screen in your chapter.
Animal Welfare/Animal Rights ActivitiesChapters may want to host outreach events or charity events that directly benefit non-human animals, either at your college or in your community. This can include protests, volunteer activities at local shelters or rescue groups, creating campus "meatless Mondays," and more.
Legislative ActivitiesChapters
may want to get involved in trying to influence legislation in their communities or nationwide with letter writing campaigns, meeting with legislators, and helping to fashion policies that benefit animals or help people who work with animals.
